吴克明、季天祥编著的这本《高级英语阅读(高等学校英语专业规划教材)》系“高等学校英语专业规划教材”之一，供英语专业高年级学生使用，也可供具有大学英语四到六级水平的非英语专业学生作为阅读材料。本书是原《高级英语阅读教程》的第二版，共分16个单元32课，对原来的课文进行了修订和增减。新版教程收集了现当代美、英著名作家的散文、演讲和故事，每个单元包括作者简介、课文、注释、要点评析和练习题。所选的篇章经典地道，新增的内容富有时代性，涉及事业、家庭、婚姻、工作与娱乐等与学生毕业后不久密切相关的主题。文体多样，风格各异，便于学生进行比较、分析、讨论，有利于培养学生逻辑思维和判断评述的能力。所有的课文删除或修改了原文中少数冷僻的词，减轻了学生的学习负担。
